Thanks to Jackson’s amazing therapy facility we were recently given the awesome opportunity to go out on Galveston Bay in a sailboat with Sailing Angels.
Sailing Angels takes pride in introducing the world of sailing and a unique “hydro-therapy experience” to children with special needs. The best part is, they offer this amazing experience to families at no cost.
I was not sure how Jackson would respond to being out on a boat, because although he loves water a great deal I was concerned that the boat might frighten him or make nauseous.
Of course, in typical Jackson style he completely surprised everyone on the boat by being so delighted by the entire experience. He was so calm once we got out on the water it was mind blowing.
This is a child who never stops verbalizing and is always pacing, moving, or stemming in some way…and once we were out on the water he just completely relaxed and looked out at the waves.
It was truly such a treat to see Jackson experience such calm for the first time.
I am so grateful to Sailing Angels for making Jackson’s summer extra special with this sailing trip.
If you know a child or adult with special needs that would enjoy a sailing day, or would like to help support this amazing organization visit:
P.S. Like my photos from the boat? They were taken with my new camera (more on this soon)! I’m still learning to get the settings just right, but can’t wait to tell you more about it!
